‘Pull’d the poor wretch from her melodious lay down to muddy death’ ‘incapable of her own distress’. WS
This painting was created at the beginning of the UK Coronavirus lockdown. My mind at the time was semi focused on the pandemic and how we arrived here, and at the same time looking at how art and science can be bridged. The painting references Millais's Ophelia, unaware of her impending danger, just being kept afloat by her garments. A reference also to the pandemic. There are various scientific references within the painting about life and futility. For me it is not a bleak painting, but it does take aim at ignorance but also shines a light on possibility.
